I am an experimentalist working on the quantum properties of solids. I am a Professor in the Physics Department at Columbia University, and am also the Group Leader of the Scan Probe Microscopy Group in the Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science Division at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

At Columbia, the primary experimental techniques used in the lab are Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (also including optical excitation), Atomic Force Microscopy and derivative techniques, electron transport and wide-field NV magnetometry.

At BNL, group members use STM, Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy, Molecular Beam Epitaxy and transport measurements. The group fabricates samples using clean-room techniques as required for measurements.

We collaborate strongly with many groups at both Columbia and BNL.
