Our Team

Describe your team here.

  • Xuehao is a graduate student working on a project to combine STM/AFM measurements with high-intensity IR/visible excitation. He works closely with Tom Darlington, and the Basov, Schuck (Mech E) and Lipson (EE) groups.

  • Xiong is a Max Planck Center Fellow working on scanning tunneling microscopy of 2D materials at low temperature.

  • Tom is a postdoc, joint with the Basov and Schuck groups. Our three groups are pursuing various ideas to combine optical excitation/readout and STM/AFM measurements at cryogenic temperatures. Tom and Xuehao Wu have built a first STM instrument to implement some of these ideas.

  • Tatiana is a postdoc who is working on cryogenic AFM and MFM measurements of magnetic films and 2D materials. This project is a collaboration with the Basov and Dean groups.

  • Simon is a grad student working on STM measurements of various 2D samples as well as single crystals (secret!). He collaborates with the Dean and Roy (Chemistry) groups for samples.

  • Morgan is a graduate student jointly advised by Xiaoyang Zhu (Chemistry). He is working on STM measurements on superatom solids.

  • Mark is a postdoctoral scientist working jointly with the Owen (Chemistry) and Schuck (Mech E) groups on a new project to realize NV magnetometry at Columbia. He collaborates with the groups of Meriles at CCNY.

  • Madisen is a MRSEC IRG fellow, working on the synthesis and characterization of TMD single crystals and related 2D projects. Madisen works closely with the Hone (Mech E) and Barmak (APAM) groups, and external collaborators on the project.

  • Luca is an undergraduate student working with the group on STM measurements

  • Larry is a graduate student  (joint with Cory Dean and Jim Hone) who is most recently working on measurements on quantum point contacts in TMDs and twisted WSe2, in collaboration with the Dean and Hone groups. The Rubio group (Flatiron/MPI) is theoretically collaborating on QPC measurements.

  • Jikai is an undergraduate working on cryogenic AFM and MFM measurements.

  • Aisha is a MRSEC REU student for summer 2023

  • Giancarlo is a graduate student working on cryogenic AFM/MFM measurements

  • Eric is working on STM measurements of the BTS family, in collaboration with the Ravichandran (USC) group and related collaborators. He is also working on STM measurements of doped Mott insulators with the Gauzzi (Sorbonne) and Uemura groups and related experimental and theoretical collaborators.

  • Daniel is a graduate student working on transport and STM measurements

  • Aya is a graduate student working on transport and STM measurements.

  • Augusto is a graduate student in the group who works on 2D projects using transport measurements. Augusto works together with students from several groups to make samples for a variety of measurements and studies some of these samples himself using transport. Most recently, Augusto together  Dean and Hone group has been studying twisted WSe2. These rely on the excellent samples grown in the Columbia MRSEC. Theoretical collaborators include the Millis and Rubio (Flatiron/MPI) groups and their own collaborators.

  • Apoorv is a grad student working jointly with the group of Cory Dean. Apoorv has been most recently performing measurements of superconductivity in thin Td-MoTe2. Collaborators are the Dean, Hone and Rhodes (U Wisconsin) groups and theorists from U Minnesota (Fernandes and Birol groups).

  • Still here.

Also works with scientists at Brookhaven National Lab, see https://www.bnl.gov/cmpmsd/spm/
